Rescue 10: Parkhurst Farm (Shed 1): 1 bird removed
july 18, 2004

Three rescue team members conducted a short inspection in Shed 1, this being the third week in a row inspecting the same batch of birds. There is still a great deal of moisture on the shed walls, as well as wet litter along the base of the walls, though it is not as hot inside the shed as during the prior two inspections. The lights were out in the shed, and there was a great deal of machinery noise.

The birds are now three weeks old and many had feather-loss and reddened skin (erythema) on their rear areas. We fear this could possibly have been from living on the wet litter for the past two weeks. We saw several dead bodies and one very small and frail bird that was unable to reach the water outlet, we removed this bird from the shed, but she was too weak to recover and died shortly after.
